Seven new PhD candidates joined the NSF Research Traineeship in Predictive Plant Phenomics (P3) and received NRT Fellowships for their first year. These students have backgrounds in microbiology, biochemistry, crop science, plant breeding, mechanical engineering, mathematics, and computer science. The P3 Program now has 13 students, including six members from the inaugural cohort who started in fall 2016. The P3 Program is directed by Julie Dickerson, Northrop Grumman Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The Confocal and Multiphoton Facility, Image Analysis Facility, Microscopy and NanoImaging Facility, and the Roy J. Carver Laboratory for Ultrahigh Resolution Biological Microscopy (part of the Institute for Combinatorial Discovery) are merging into a new Roy J. Carver High Resolution Microscopy Facility (HRMF). Margie Carter, Tracey Stewart, and Curtis Mosher will manage the HRMF, to be administered by the Office of Biotechnology. Existing services will continue without interruption.
